Yeah, it’s not a river, but since its been a longtime fishing haunt for me (and it’s as beautiful as it can get) I decided to include it in this category. This was taken on a wild and chilly November morning stalking elusive Stripers.

The Big Flat Brook
Blewett Tract; Near Walpack Center, N.J., c1968
I fished the Farmington a lot back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. On a weekday you could still have the river mostly to yourself. It housed a resident population of wild fish and lots of stocked fish as well. As a tailwater, there was usually some action going on, and the resident population of large fish (some in the 6-7 pound range) always made it interesting. I loved the days I spent there – I met several anglers over the years there who became friends.

Manistee River

Bear Brook
“The Glen”; Park Ridge, NJ
Bear Brook was one of my childhood haunts. Back in the 1950’s and 60’s it still held wild brookies and browns. It was a lovely little secluded gem of pocket water and glides for us to explore.
Pascack Brook
Silver Bridge, Looking downstream;
The river (brook) of my childhood. There were summers I spent every day hunting trout, I can still recite the pools/holes for the three-mile stretch I haunted: The Manor; The Brushpile; The Willows: Silver Bridge; Keonig’s Run; Koenig’s Hole, The Trainbridge; The Banana Hole; The Bend; Fairview Ave Hole; Bedspring Pool; Elks Run; Becker’s Pool; MsDevitts Pool (Brookside Park); Tommy’s Hole.
Ramapo River
One of our local childhood rivers in Mahwah, NJ.
