Hackensack River

Below the cornfield, Montvale, NJ

Another childhood haunt. This was a beautiful stretch of New Jersey water that held some good stocked fish. And even better, the river sustained a good array of mayflies, inchworms, and all sorts of aquatic insects. Rich Saslow, Larry Sosnow, Bob Woods, John Eilhardt and I did some great flyrod work here. But alas, this section exists no more. A resevoir was built, and this section was flooded and now lies under 30 feet of water. But the memories are sweet.

Bear Brook

“The Glen”; Park Ridge, NJ

Bear Brook was one of my childhood haunts. Back in the 1950’s and 60’s it still held wild brookies and browns. It was a lovely little secluded gem of pocket water and glides for us to explore.

Alex w/Huge Smallmouth

On the Tennessee River, Shoals, Alabama

Tennessee River, below Wilson Dam, Shoals, Alabama. We fished with guide Dennis Evans. We thought Alex was into a big striper until he got the fish to the boat. The Smallmouth of a lifetime!

East Branch Brownie

Taken just above Peas Eddy, East Branch, Delaware River;

Photo, Ben Rinker; This fish was rising in shallow pocket water along the right bank , almost downstream to the bridge. I missed him several times before I was able to come tight. Great battle and a very satisfying moment – one of so many with Ben.

L.I. Sound, Sherwood Island

An October day I was in the right place at the right time. Standing in the middle of a run of schoolies, took over 50 fish. Pure joy watching them whack the fly on almost every cast.
